Handmade Trove: Ammonite Pendant by Rica Jewels

I grew up in a tiny town where I could walk to the beach. One of my first summer jobs was at a sea shell shop, where I was stunned tourists would stand in line to buy Beanie Babies instead of the stunning spiral shells. That commercial craze was just a hiccup in time, but the beauty of nautilus shells and their ancestors' fossils endures.

Ammonite Pendant by Rica JewelsFrom the moment Daniela of Rica Jewels asked me to host her ammonite jewelry giveaway, I became fascinated with ammonite history and mythology. I almost dropped extinct when an awesome ammonite pendant arrived unexpectedly. I can barely fathom what the world was like millions of years ago when the marine invertebrate animal existed and yet, I can wear its memory around my neck on a routine 21st-century day!

Ammonites are believed to provide insight into the bigger picture. Hopefully wearing the sterling silver necklace will remind me to step back when I get discouraged by details, especially when drawing. Something small might seem like the end of the world, when it's just the beginning.

Disclaimer: I received this free pendant as a thank you gift for hosting a jewelry giveaway. If you think your handmade creations would harmonize with my whimsical ramblings, learn how to sponsor a giveaway here.

  3. Love ammonites! Amazing how they find them where there was no any sea for millions of years. So ancient... I have a few too, but not as jewelry, though.

  4. It is hard to beat the beauty that nature has made. I'm sure all the people that once purchased those fad Beanie Babies have come to regret their purchases and wish they had spent their money on something more lovely and enduring - such as your gorgeous ammonite pendant. :)

Makeup Giveaway: All Natural Mineral Cosmetics by Madison Street Beauty

EDIT: Giveaway is officially closed. Congratulations to Rita Szlovencsák for submitting the randomly chosen 57th entry. Perhaps it's the hot weather and the drought in Delaware, but I have been daydreaming about being a mermaid. That's why I gleamed to discover the Etsy Blog's Mermaid Makeup Tutorial when looking through the list of articles where my new giveaway sponsor's products have shimmered. Madison Street Beauty has dozens of magnificent eye shadow colors that could enhance the sexy siren in any creature. One lucky winner will even get to choose five full size eye shadows, as well as a foundation, a setting powder and a blush or bronzer sample for free. Amethyst, an opaque vegan eyeshadow of medium purple, would be my first pick, fins down. Look at those sparkles! If choosing only five colors is too difficult, why not try some natural samples first? The owners, Bridget and Rhys, are currently celebrating their one year Etsyversary and offering an astonish...

EDIT: Giveaway is officially over. Congratulations to Susana Silva for submitting the randomly-chosen 392nd entry. Not to mention that they're also a fun fashion accessory. One winner will get to choose any scarf under $40 from Elizabeth Koh to heat up an outfit. Elizabeth Koh is not one person, but two - both Janelle and Megan's middle names are Elizabeth, and Koh means island in Thailand, where they handcraft all their cotton and silk scarves. Every collection is named after a beach or island in Thailand and feature a range of weights for wearing in several seasons. Elizabeth Koh is committed to improving the communities where their products are made, so 10% of proceeds are donated to SOS Children's Villages in Thailand.
