Friday Finds: Wonderful Wizard of Oz Dolls

Unfortunately, I did not win it big in Vegas while celebrating my birthday. But thanks to Dorothy and her wonderful friends, I did not lose big, either. After a week of spending about $20 a day in gambling at a variety of stunning casinos, I landed atop a penny slot machine themed around one of my favorite classic movies, the Wizard of Oz (2-Disc 70th Anniversary Edition DVD currently on sale for $9.49 and eligible for free shipping on Amazon.com if any fellow fans are interested). I'd been dazzled by the ruby slippers feature before, but this was the first time I was awarded the free spins bonus round. The Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tinman and Cowardly Lion faces were all lit up as wild cards. I watched in glee as the wins for all the reels added up to $95! Then I clicked my heels and went happily home the next day. Today I followed the yellow brick road from Etsy to the Emerald City. Look at the amazing sets of Wizard of Oz dolls that skipped along to join me on my journey. Each han...

Flying Monkey ACEO Bookmark

I drew this devious flying monkey a few years ago as a minion for my Ogre. He hasn't been available as a bookmark in the past because he growled ferociously when I tried to stuff him into the standard skinny format. However, I've been seeing more and more artists create bookmarks in ACEO size. I approached him again this week, inspired by brown week over at the Summer of Color . I went prepared with a banana split bribe to keep his fang busy while he was cloned, laminated, and adorned with a decorative yarn. Don't make me sic my flying monkey on you - go give his ACEO bookmark some handmade love on Etsy.

Halloween Brews and Espresso Chocolate Pudding Potion

Happy Halloween, boys and ghouls! The studly demon to the right is Justin, gorging on the Witches' Brew Ale I bought him as a birthday gift. He so outdid me in planning costumes this year. Halloween crept up fast and had me rummaging yesterday afternoon for what to wear to last night's party. I borrowed a black and purple striped witch hat attached to a shiny violet wig and a silver hip scarf from my mom. I threw on a cape, midnight blue velour dress, and one of my many pairs of striped stockings. Then slipped on my sparkly silver shoes, and abracadabra - Wicked Witch of the East, before she got the house dropped on her, of course. The magical shoes were originally silver in L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz book , not ruby as they were changed to pop for Technicolor on The Wizard of Oz film . After my outfit was covered, it was time to concoct a treat to bring. I was inspired by a conversation I had Friday night at the 16 Mile Brewery's release party for thei...

Follow the yellow brick road ... Treasury

The wizard of Pacific Coast Designs & Vintage Finds has dreamed of a place where troubles melt like lemon drops. But the journey there can't be all rainbows and bluebirds - my flying monkey magnet has swooped in to spy upon Dorothy and Toto's trek down the yellow brick road. "Somewhere, over the rainbow, skies are blue. And the dreams that you dare to dream Really do come true." -The Wizard of Oz

We're off to see the wizard ... Treasury

Let the joyous news be spread, my art is in another treasury! "My Flying Monkey" print is featured among many wonderful Wizard of Oz items, chosen by crochetgal . Go see these pretties before it expires on Saturday, April 25th at 11:07pm. PS: If the treasury expires before you're able to view it and it's life or death that you see a featured item, add ".etsy.com" after the username (they're on the second line under the picture, left of the price - and if they're hard to read, right click on the image so you can view it full size) and you'll be magically whisked away to their shop. For example, you'd type my username, "aquariann," then ".etsy.com" and abra ca dabra: aquariann.etsy.com
