Flower Photo: Morning Glory Vine at Cacapon Mountain Overlook

Ogre and I winded our way up to the mountains in West Virginia for our anniversary earlier in the week. We took a picnic lunch to Cacapon Resort State Park and practically had the place to ourselves. I spotted these marvelous morning glories growing beneath the deck at the Cacapon Mountain Overlook. I also took my first panorama shot standing above them, as shown below. Purple Flower Photo: Rose Of Sharon Blossom

Although I haven't hosted Flower Fridays in awhile due to moving, that didn't stop me from taking flower photos for the slumbering season ahead! Pink Flower Photo: Kwanzan Cherry Tree Blossoms

Cherry tree petals are painting the pavement pink in Delaware now, but I can't resist sharing one more photo from when they were first blooming a couple weeks ago. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen me post another flower cluster from this tree. I went walking with my friend Maddy after work and couldn't leave her yard without meeting it, despite already taking dozens of photos of the same type of Kwanzan tree at the office earlier that day. The double blossoms are so big and beautiful! Nature Photo: Monarch Butterfly Chrysalis

Ponce Denis Écouchard Lebrun wrote, "The butterfly is a flying flower, The flower a tethered butterfly." I'm using his quote as an excuse to post this captivating chrysalis for Flower Friday. My friend Maddy found it hanging from the river birch tree I shared a photo of for Wordless Wednesday back in 2011. This is my first time seeing a monarch chrysalis in person. I had no idea they were so shimmery! I will be stalking this spot in the hope that the beautiful butterfly emerges when I'm around. MONDAY, AUGUST 1 UPDATE: I can't deny I was disappointed to arrive at work after the weekend to find the chrysalis deserted. However, the empty shell was fascinating to study. Later I was delighted to discover that Nick was there to behold the butterfly and managed to capture this shot with his phone before it flew away to spread its beauty around the world. Nature never fails to amaze me! Featured Flower Picks: Frangipani Trees • Singapore Garden ...

Natural Wonder Photo: Diamond Cascade at Shenandoah Caverns

I remember being fascinated by the formations when my parents took me to Luray Caverns as a child. When Ogre and I decided to explore the Shenandoah Valley as our spring vacation, I knew I wanted to revisit the limestone caves as an adult. A Buy One, Get One Deal on Groupon made it easy to choose Shenandoah Caverns from all the intriguing underground options in Virginia. The hour tour took us a mile through seventeen spectacular "rooms" of connecting chambers. If you follow me on social media, you may have already seen my photo of their famous "Breakfast Bacon" formations. Or our selfie at Grotto of the Gods . But you know I love sparkles, so of course I had to blog about the Diamond Cascade. Come closer. And closer! The glittering minerals really do resemble a frozen waterfall. My favorite place was the "Rainbow Lake," but it was too stunning for my camera to even comprehend. Not that any of my captures do the caverns justice - you really nee...

Nature Photos: New Hampshire Waterfalls

Wondering where my Flower Friday photos were the last two weeks? My camera and I went chasing waterfalls with my husband instead. Neither of us had ever been to New Hampshire, so we decided to explore it for our third anniversary after finding a great deal at a ski resort in off-season. We were a bit unprepared to hike on the harder trails through the White Mountain National Forest, but there were still several waterfalls to see that were less than a mile walk from the road. And wow, were they all breathtaking! My three favorite, as shown above, were Sabbaday Falls, Jackson Falls and Silver Cascade.
