Early fairies: Ashley and Andie

Looking back at my last year of college, I'm not sure how I found the time to start drawing fantasy art. I was working part time at a web design studio, part time at a fabric outlet store, and part time as a student trying to pull my graphic design portfolio together for the big senior show ... not to mention all the nights hanging out with friends and shaking my salt shaka at clubs in Jacksonville. I suppose I just needed some time to myself and an escape from everything else going on in my life.

Once my roommates saw my drawings, they were my biggest fans. Not hard to be, considering I didn't muster up the courage to show many other people my work until after graduation when I built my website. Ashley begged me to use my magical powers to transform her into a fairy. So I took a picture of her posing like she was holding a butterfly, and used it as a reference to draw her. Andie was the next roommate I turned into a fairy. I've been sprinkling my fairy glitter and colored pencil dust over friends since then.

  1. Thank you for sharing your story! I think that it feels easier to find time to do things when you are busy. I know that doesn't make a lot of sense, but it's how it works for me.

  2. I loved those days in that apartment and the wonderful way you brought magic into our lives. And, I love my fairy. It gives me strength when I need to remember how strong I can be :-)
