Orange Tiger Lily Drawing

I've been in a drawing rut lately. But the Summer of Color challenge started this week so I dug deep. I hope to grow a new piece to share each week, so instead of sketching, inking and then coloring, I'm trying something new - and only using colored pencils. That means no erasing and no fretting that the image isn't perfect. I'm just going to let the colors flow.

For the 6-week event, I'll be practicing drawing flowers to incorporate into my fairy artworks. This year the inspirations are based on ice cream flavors. The first color scheme is "Rainbow Sherbet," a bold combination of pinks, oranges and a touch of white. I drew an orange tiger lily. I was envisioning the piece with a white and pink background, but as you can see by the deep blue, color happens.

    She's trying something new!! YAYYY!! You're on to something. Keep going with it. :) Love the orange and purple combo.

    As there is in all your pictures, there is a nice decorative quality about this one, similar to the style of Art Nouveau. Alfonse Mucha, for example, did some extraordinary things with flowers and figures. Might be worth reviewing his works.

    I had trouble getting the pink in there as well so that is why I ended up with a pink background... this is just gorgeous... I love oranges and blues together and this just screams summer to me...xx

    Good for you for branching out! I found the "no line" drawing and using only shading to be the most difficult part of the single fine art class I took in university. I also recall learning to draw flowers in elementary school by using the grid technique. You just draw one square in the grid at a time from a photo.

    Glad you are proud to stand out in colour too.
