  4. Barn swallows are among my favorite birds, because they eat so many flying insects. Thanks very much for posting this wonderful shot of a nest, which is beautiful in & of itself.

  6. Cool photo and a very nice saying about the worm not being thrown into the nest. We all have to put forth effort in life, even the birds.

  20. Wow, that's an impressive shot. With that fierce look the swallow needs no words to get its meaning across.

Thanks for visiting my WW. :)

  21. OneDay - I was at least 5 feet away, and the swallow was still squawking to try to scare me away from the babies. 10x zoom is fantastic.

  27. Aww, what a great shot! We had a bird's nest one year right on top of one of the light fixtures by the front door, at first I thought the birds had lost it, they kept swooping in. We tried to use the back door as much as possible, but while the nest remained, they decided not to lay eggs there the following year!

  28. Where do you live that these are native to? I've never seen a nest (or bird) like that. What material is the nest made of?

  29. Sarah - I live in Delaware, near the ocean. The nest is mostly made of mud and straw, I think.
