Manicure Monday: Don't Be Koi Nail Polish Strips by Sally Hansen Salon Effects

Koi Fish Nail Polish Strips by Sally Hansen

My Jamberry Nails party went swimmingly well, thanks to my fashionista friends for supporting it! I placed my hostess order the night before I finally had to remove my first full set, #WhiteSkullsonBlackJN, on day 14 because the edges were peeling enough to pull out my hair when brushing it back thoughtlessly. Jamberry's nail wraps description reads "lasts up to two weeks on fingernails" but I didn't truly believe mine would last that long due to the amount of time I spend typing and washing my hands.

To distract myself until the Jamberry nail art arrives, I decided to test out cute koi fish scale nail polish strips from the Sally Hansen Salon Effects line. Again, I was surprised how easy they were to apply - how did it take me so long to try anything other than polish on my nails?! All I had to do was peel, press and trim the strip that best matched the size of each fingernail. Lucky for me, 5 out of the 8 sizes included fit my nail plates almost perfectly. Unfortunately, the 3 sizes left are a waste - the box demands disregarding any strips after opening because they'll dry out. I was hoping to mix and match the fish with other styles on a later manicure, like I can with leftover Jamberry wraps. The strips also have a subtle smell since they're made out of real nail polish.

But I bought the set on clearance so I can't complain too much. Next time I discover a Sally Hansen design I like at a discounted price (retail is $8.99 and I can't justify spending that much when there's only enough strips for 16 nails), I'll be prepared to embellish my toe nails so I don't have to throw any pretty pieces away.

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with the Sally Hansen brand, but if you decide to buy nail art (or any other Amazon product) by clicking my referral link, I'll earn a small commission.

  1. These are really cute! I'll have to show my daughter and see if she is interested in trying some out. She works in a health food store and uses organic nail polish. So, if it passes her all natural test she'll be a good promoter for you.

  2. I've seen these and wanted to try them out, but I haven't bought any yet. Lucky you for finding some on clearance! I can't wait for my jamberry wraps to arrive. =0)

  3. I've never tried any of those, but that's pretty rad!

  4. I love Koi fish! I have a pen with a similar pattern on it that I picked up from Korea a few years ago. Your nails look so pretty, I'll have to try these strips because I'm awful at applying nail polish.

  5. Wow, love it! The pattern is so fun and exciting! I definitely need to try these.

  6. I'm really curious how long these will last for you in comparison to regular polish and the Jamberry wraps you've tried. I haven't messed with them myself because I'm fairly sure I'd be throwing my money away. My nails are so thin and flexible that polish doesn't last me a day. Hence my Jamberry obsession!

    1. I'm curious, too! The box says they last up to 10 days. I'm on day 4 and they still look good as new, where as liquid nail polish would have chipped by now.

  7. They look great! Have you done any reviews on nail stampers using the plates, like from Konad?

    1. Not yet, Siri, but I'm definitely interested! May, my guest blogger for next Monday, uses a Konad stamper and is going to share a St. Patrick's design with us.

EDIT: Giveaway is officially over! Congratulations to the randomly chosen 108th commenter, Andalene! Accessorize an outfit and rejuvenate your spirit at the same time! Michelle of WireQueen is bequeathing a beautiful pair of clear quartz earrings to one of my readers. The design is named "Midwife Healer" in honor of the midwife that delivered her second daughter. The four sided dagger beads are different lengths and embraced by sterling silver wrap with surgical steel earwires. She has already cleared the crystals, but if you ever need to recharge or remove unwanted energy, simply place in a window that is beaming with sunlight. Michelle believes that the Creator gave to all things a purpose, including gemstones. She covers as little of the "face" of the stone as possible, but still secures it safely in its setting. She has customers who are still wearing creations that are over 10 years old! She's been selling jewelry offline for years, but only recently began...
